Release the tigers! (Fifty Shades of Grey, Chapter 3, Part 2)

After a couple days weeks to cool off, I'm going back into this tripe.

We left off with the inane discussion that Ana should call Jose (accent missing) because he would "do anything for her." And yet, she is still ordinary. Then Kate tells her friend that she needs to call Christian as well because she is the one with the relationship with him.
"Relationship?...I barely know the guy." Right you are Ana, right you are! And yet, this logic doesn't seem to get pounded into your head even as you say it. Why are you fantasizing about this guy, why are you excited that he would like you as you BARELY KNOW THE GUY! He could be a serial rapist or murderer and just have it covered up with money and you wouldn't know the difference. I hate idiotic people, particularly idiotic females.
Then Kate gets snippy and sounds bitter, but she had chosen not to go to the interview, sending her friend that wasn't involved in the paper to do it and...yeah, I don't have the energy to get angry at that point anymore.
After a few moments, Paul comes back!
"We're kind of busy out there, Ana," he says without acrimony. Definition of acrimony: bitterness or ill-feeling.

This book has this a lot and it really pisses me off. This is not a frequently seen word, and as much as I am supportive of using the English language to its fullest, there is no reason for it to be there. There is no reason for him to be bitter. I mean, besides the fact that she is on her phone during work hours (I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt and going to think she is on her break), they don't have any connection so he shouldn't be upset about Grey. There is literally no reason to use that word. And it made me upset, probably for no reason, but I thought I should stop the review to rant in this paragraph. Onward.

"So, how come you know Christian Grey?" Paul's voice is unconvincingly nonchalant.
You know what Ana, maybe he is interested. Maybe that's the reason why it isn't successfully nonchalant. Just say he is interested, stop using big words to get to a word quota. The words, they are hating you now. And the she has to go and say that she fails at being casual when she answer. Listen chicky, it is called small talk. You are acting like a five-year old when they are trying not to scream about something exciting. Get over it.
Then she compares Paul to Grey. Saying that Paul is good-looking, but god forbid if he was ever close to Grey in the looks category! Plus, Paul is the boy-next-door,"but he's no literary hero." I-I can't...seriously? Grey is not a literary hero! He is a stalker! Twilight was not something to base a literary hero on. Heathcliff is NOT a romantic hero; he is an anti-hero and should be treated as such. Poor Paul, he is continually shot down for being a sorta good guy that still believes he has a shot with our heroine. It's okay, Paul, you can lean on my shoulder to cry when you eventually realize that you are not emotionally scarred enough to be the romantic interest.

Now this is where I get a little pissed off, more than normal at least. Kate demands that Ana called Jose to ask him to do the pictures. She said that he would do anything for Ana, but you know what he does on the phone with her? He refuses her. What is this saying for how your characters understand their reality Faux-Meyer. Kate takes the phone from Ana and gets Jose to say yes with one, not even two, sentences. Why didn't she just call Jose in the first place. You are making me hate your characters even more.
And Kate here, she's not being awesomely tough. She's being a vindictive, whiny 5-year old who will demand anything she wants and then have a hissy fit when she doesn't get it. And then she demands, literally, "Call Grey, now!" Ana doesn't want to do it. You know what then? Make Kate do it if she wants it so badly. Instead we get this bullshit.
"His tone is clipped, calm, and cold." Later, "His voice has changed....warm-seductive even." I still don't like him. I still really, really dislike him. And she blushes and Kate gets all stupid 12-year old relationship-like. Well...it's better than a 5-year old, I guess.
I hate this chapter, I hate this chapter, I hate my life. I'm just going to post this and make it an even bigger part chapter because I can't handle it all in one day.

Best wishes,
Sunshine

I guess she was a bit hungry (Fifty Shades of Grey, Chapter 3 Review-Part 1)

Hello, again.
I should have updated this sooner, but every time I picked up my nook...I just couldn't do it. However, fantastic news from this weekend. I was getting ready to help crew a endurance trail ride with my aunt when I looked over and saw Fifty Shades of Shite on her table. At first, I was disgusted and called her out on it, but she explained that a co-worker bought the books for her and she read them, disliked them, and then said that I could have them and could mark them up however I wanted.
However I wanted?
Thank you, gods, for the gift of my bright orange ball-point pen.
I am no longer afraid to toss it across the room as it is not my expensive piece of technology. And I have the whole series!
Goody.
A new color pen for each book.
I've already finished Chapter 4 and I'm working on 5, so the reviews will be done shortly. Hurrah.
And now, Chapter 3.

Just a warning, the punctuation does cry a lot.

We start off the chapter with Kate, gushing over things that don't really need to be gushed over as they aren't really that much cause for excitement. And believe me, then way these girls do excitement, you'd think that they were twelve or something. And then Kate gives us this brilliant dialogue the third paragraph in, "I think that is one huge coincidence, Ana. You don't think he was there to see you?"
No shit, Captain Obvious, thank you for that one. Anyone with a brain would have figured it out by now, hell, the "protagonist" thought that at first, but of course, her "self-consciousness" made it so she believed him when he said he visited her job only because he was "in the area---on business." Definitely not stalking her though.
And then this-this thing! "The richest, most elusive, most enigmatic bachelor in Washington State just gave you his cell phone number?" Seriously? I mean, seriously? Come on! Seriously? Sorry for repeating that so much, especially because Twithead does enough inner dialogue repeating, but...god. Add some more onto him to make him so great. But even then, when I think about it, only gold-diggers and whores (my apologies, guys, but I call it as I see it) go for men with zero lack of politeness, kindness, and who have an extremely disgusting arrogance who have a butt-load of money. And from what I've heard of later chapters, it just reaffirms my gold-digger stance.
Then he's called polite in her mind, because, of course, the "stalker" does polite. I mentioned the point about the roommate and sick last review, but it's brought up again. I wish she would think about something else, but the empty head space must be too daunting for her.
My favorite part is where she finally starts to believe he might like her and then this(!): "I hug myself with quiet glee, rocking from side to side entertaining the possibility that he might like me."
Picture her for a moment, hugging herself, smiling, and rocking side to side. Got that?
Now put a straight-jacket on her. I think it fits quite nicely.
She's insane and that must be the only answer.
I will give the author the benefit of the doubt and get on the editor for that, but a responsible author reads the way they worded things and tries to picture it in their heads. Rocking side to side generally denotes something not right, I think the image that James wanted to portray was twisting side to side.
That doesn't make it any better though. She hasn't even known this guy for 24 hours. They've never had a real conversation. She's only talked to him TWICE. What the hell, author! What is wrong with you?!
Then, just to grate my nerves about how "ordinary" she is, we get Kate saying another friend, Jose (add an accent over the 'e'), would do anything for Ana and Kate wants him to take the pictures.

Now pause right here, right now.
Look at the people we have heard of.
Ana: Caucasian-European decent
Christian: Caucasian-European decent
Paul: Caucasian-European decent
Jose: Latino

Compare to Twilight
Bella: Caucasian-European decent
Edward: Caucasian-European decent
Mike Newton: Caucasian-European decent
Jacob Black: Native American

Forget that both Paul and Mike work and are involved with the place where the heroine works, who would you guess the romantic foil is?
The one who really cements the heroine and hero together?
Guessed it yet?
Yup. The minorities. This is BULLSHIT. The author is probably going to make Jose do something that makes him seem like the bad guy and then he's going to be forgiven by Ana. All I know is that it is fucking racist bullshit to have the 'bad guy', as far as I've read, be different. That's not to say that you can't have none white people be the bad ones, but I've only read one character so far that is racially different. I think Seattle/Portland area has more than one Latino.

I can't handle the rest of this right now. And I'm only on the second page of this chapter. It'll have to be in parts.
Damn it.

For now-

Best wishes,
~Sunshine

The written word weeps tiny punctuation points (Fifty Shades of Grey, Chapter 2 Review)

Hello again.
It's been quite a while since I updated my blog. It's mainly because I started working full-time.
Also because I needed to mentally prepare myself for tackling the rest of this book. It makes me seethe. Especially when I see its disgusting cover, knowing what lies beneath, almost every day on television shows. And when it's not shown, it's talked about.
Not even Twilight garnered this much attention. I suppose that shows that there is a lack of sexual freedom in the world right now, at least in America, but I'm not exactly sure about the accuracy of that statement.
I should start talking about the second chapter now...I really should. But I don't want to. I don't want to revisit it.

I'm going to go buy some penetrating oil for my car instead....

I'm back. That was refreshing. Nothing like manual labor in 90 degree weather to take your mind away from the x-rated fantasies of a middle-aged woman.
Onward!

I am being nit-picky here, and I know it, but "immaculate sandstone floor." Really? Why not just say sandstone floor? Does it have to be immaculate? Which, before I continue, immaculate: 1) Having no stain or blemish 2) Containing no flaw or error 3) Spotlessly clean. If this place is as important of a company as I'm led to believe it is, the immaculate is understood. You don't walk into a 5-star hotel, look at the floor, and see blemishes. But you don't comment on it either, it just is. If they are professional and have the money, the floors will look good. Period.
Next part I take issue with: "No man has ever affected me the way Christian Grey has, and I cannot fathom why. Is it his looks? His civility?"
...what civility? Frankly, I am not a big believer in the whole "he took my breath away when I first saw him"-thing. It's never happened to me upon first meeting a person. It hasn't happened to anyone I know (that I am aware of). People are good looking, yeah, but they haven't stunned me into submission in that I carry on an internal dialogue talking about how he affected me. But yes, civility. He had none, from what I could tell. Scratch that. He had professional civility at first. Just like any other professional person. That was not special. The only "special" thing about him was his creepy interest in the heroine's life, which came out of nowhere and was very disturbing. Moving on.
"My heart steadies to its regular rhythm." You went on an elevator ride, which was over 5 floors long, have walked out, and your heart has still not returned to a normal beat? I'm sorry, what is wrong with you? You didn't run anywhere, so the only reasons why your heart would be beating fast would be that you are horny as all hell and need to screw something or your fight-or-flight instinct is kicking in because Grey is a psycho who you subconsciously know you flee from forever. How do you not recognize this?
She then talks about Grey's good points and bad points. She calls him arrogant. Why she would first state that he was incredibly civil and then call him arrogant is beyond me, but I'm not writing this stupid book. And then comes the blonde hate again! "Again, I'm irritated that Kate didn't give me a brief biography." You had some time, use google and find him yourself. You have the tools for success!
Scratch that. This female is completely idiotic and probably couldn't find her way out of a corn maze.
Then she angsts about the questions. Because you don't know what you are asking when you read a piece of paper. GASP! So she blames her roommate some more. Poor Kate, I like you very much right now just to spite the hatred that Ana is heaping on you.
She then talks about how she is driving slowly because Grey told her to drive carefully. Dumb-dumb, listen. Driving carefully does not equate to driving slowly. Driving slowly is actually more dangerous on highways because it slows everyone else down. Stupid girl. Then she says something completely out-of-whack and is a throwback to her Twilight days: "Grey's more like a man twice his age." Gag me. Grey did nothing to suggest life-maturity. He said drive carefully. That's what people say to others when they know they have a drive ahead of them. Common sense, Ana, common sense.
Now comes the passage that cements my dislike for the writer's premise for the whole meeting. Remember, this is about a girl who was supposed to be so laid up with influenza that she couldn't bear to go to the interview of her life.
""Ana! You're back." Kate sits in our living area, surrounded by books. She's clearly been studying for finals-she's still in her pink flannel pajamas decorated with cute little rabbits, the ones she reserves for the aftermath of breaking up with boyfriends, for assorted illnesses, and for general moody depression. She bounds up to me and hugs me hard."
This girl has the flu? It's like the author has never had the flu before; if this girl was that sick she would not be out of bed, she would not be able to study, and she would definitely not be able to bound up to someone. Frankly, it sounds like she had a stuffy nose and bitched and Ana wanted an excuse to hate on her and complain about her and said "I'll do it!" cheerfully and then whines later.
And I know people who pull this shit, it's freaking annoying as all hell.
Then it goes to Ana's passive-aggressive hissy fit about Kate not giving her a bio. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. You know this guy is big, god, he is the benefactor of your school. Are you physically able to do nothing for yourself? I want to kick you Ana, so hard, right now. Gah!
Ana goes to work, comes back, and then Kate bombards her with questions so that we fully understand that Grey is so "good-looking my panties can't even handle it!" and was "totally interested in Ana, so much. Oh my god, Ana, why didn't you just screw on the table with him? You were there long enough for a quickie!". Those are not quotes from the book, but the way this is written just...kill me now. Oh! And then we get this little statement:
""You, fascinated by a man? That's a first," she snorts."
Nope, Ana has been driven by vaginas all her life. This is the first penis that is so small she can pretend it isn't there.
Then Ana dreams about Grey, GASP! Symbolic dreams because he is the love of her life, but there is obviously something mysterious and dark about him. Gag.

And then she calls her mother and step-father. And Ray, the stereotypical man's man (he watches sports on TV, goes bowling/fishing, and is into furniture), is apparently the only reason Ana knows the difference between a hawk and a handsaw. See?
How is this girl in college, how is she in society? She should have a live-in caretaker for the mentally handicapped if she is unaware of the difference between a bird and a metal, lifeless, tool.
More talk of literary male heart-throbs (sound familiar?)and then she mentions that Grey has consumed her dreams recently. I'm sorry. Someone you met once, for a short time, would not be in your dreams most nights after meeting them. Not only would the likelihood of you remembering these dreams occur, but dreams don't work like that. Unless, of course, your body is still trying to imprint on you that HE IS NOT A GOOD GUY AND YOU SHOULD STAY THE HELL AWAY. This may be the case and that's why you're dreaming of him.
Oh, and just to point out, Grey is not like literary heroes. He's a pig so far.
Just saying.

Oh, oh, oh! And then we get to my favorite part of the chapter. Ana's at her job, right, and get this, GREY SHOWS UP!
Fucking stalker.
GOD~ THIS IS NOT ROMANTIC. This is the shit that Twilight has brought about. Females should not be lusting after men who stalk them, who find out the places they work and go visit them after one meeting. And it was a creep-tastic meeting as well. And his excuse for being at the store: "I was in the area-I need to stock up on a few things." Because the city where he lives obviously wouldn't have any stores that have what he needs. His voice is described as husky when he meets her again as well.
If some guy I met once, days ago, greeted me with a husky voice, he'd either get the cold-shoulder, the middle-finger salute, or a punch in the face. That crap doesn't fly with me. And no self-respecting woman should allow a man who acts/talks like that to be around her.
And she repeats her first name at him after he calls her "Miss Steele." He knew your name. He called you your name at the end of the last chapter DingDong.
And now the only thing I can think of is Miss Steele from Sense and Sensibility. Now, that's a good book.
She's showing him around the store, helping him find some things and what do you know...another flowery description pops up! "...gesturing with his long-fingered, beautifully manicured hand." Yeah, I rolled my eyes too. Definitely no reason to suspect he's gay. Not that straight guys can't have manicures, because they can, but I don't know many who would spend that kind of time doing that. I mean, hell, even I don't get my hands manicured because I don't see the point.
Another insult to our intelligence comes when she starts to rant on about how it's impossible that he would be here to see her, that he would stalk her to the store where she works because she is so fucking ordinary. We know he came there to see you. No one believes the shit that she was "just in the area, and oh! Look! There's a little local store that probably has some things that I 'need'." And I hate when heroines talk about how "ordinary" they are and not as attractive as others, and yet they have freaking guys all over them! For fuck's sake. If you were that ordinary, you wouldn't have male interests wanting to get into your pants. Fuck.
And she blushes again. What does she blush at? Her wayward thoughts. She blushed at chiding herself for thinking he was there to see her after he tells her that he's visiting WSU for research. I don't know why she would blush, she never actually said to him that he would be there visiting her. No embarrassment necessary.
I wish I didn't have to go to work soon, I would start a drinking game.
And then we get his greatness shoved in our face again when Ana says "All part of your feed-the-world plan?"
NO. IT'S NOT PART OF HIS PLAN BECAUSE HE NEVER ACTUALLY SAID HE WANTED TO FEED THE WORLD. YOU MADE THAT UP YOU STUPID TWIT~!

IhatethisbookIhatethisbookIhatethisbook

She blushes, yet again after he asks her in a low, deep voice, how long she's been working at the store.
And I think Grey has one of those gag jokes hidden somewhere because he brushes her fingers with this and she gets shocked. Wouldn't that be funny?
Oh yeah, the worst part about this?
She gets turned on just by having her fingers touched. Girl has some serious issues.
Then, literally, we get this excerpt, I am highlighting what I need to:
""Anything else?" My voice is husky and breathy. His eyes widen slightly.
"Some rope, I think." His voice mirrors mine, husky.
"This way." I duck my head down to hide my recurring blush and move toward the aisle."
Apparently, the word aroused does not exist for the author and the girl has some serious blood problems considering she was just blushing, and then she blushes again. Does her blush just pop-in "HELLO!" and then pop-out magically? Have you ever had a blush author? They don't appear that easily nor disappear that quickly.
And I'm trying to picture this seen in my head, but the only thing is looks like is some cheesey soap-opera. Yeah, definitely deserves the name mommy-porn. This does not deserve film rights, this does not deserve literary achievements, and this author should not be called influential.
And his eyes darken! Sorry, but eyes don't dark. Your lids may close to provide a shadow, but the eyes never darken. Especially not in a quick moment. I don't want to rant about this, I don't. It's just making me annoyed and disgusted and pissed-off and I have to go to work with children and smile and be happy, but I want to finish this chapter right now. Moving on.
He wants to know what her thing is. Second time meeting this guy and her brain screams out "You are my thing!" Because that's intelligently what happens. And then she says books. Mainly classics-British Literature. Why hello, Bella Swan, so nice to see you again!

Next, he asks about the newspaper article. Which he knows she isn't writing, but asks her how it is going anyway. And her roommate is the editor of the newspaper. Which, I know that they write articles too, but usually they have smaller ones (that I know of), not a huge article like this. Ergh, this is screwing with my brain.
And she is surprised he would do a photoshoot for the newspaper, for the article that is about him, for the school that he gives money to. This is common sense, Ana! Of course he'd be willing to either give Kate some photos or have some taken of him. It wouldn't make any sense for him to do the article, but not be willing to give photographs.
Oh, and by the way, he says he's free tomorrow.
Nice job in making it seem like he's so busy that it took months to get the interview schedule and that there was no possible way that he would be free enough to reschedule the interview. Dumb shits.

Then Grey gets all pissy because one of Ana's co-workers that she's known for a while one-arm hugs her. No man should touch what Grey has marked as his territory, stupid boy. And Paul gets all full of himself too and basically states that he's pissed on this girl too. Yeah, you are so ordinary Ana. Until Paul hears that this guy is a rich dude. Then he's full of ass-kissing wonderment.
She's rendered speechless by him, in a completely normal voice, confirming that she'll call him if they can schedule the photoshoot.
Then he says he's glad Kate couldn't do the interview. Nice guy right there. "I'm so glad your roommate got the flu and felt so sick she couldn't make the interview of her life so far. I mean, it just makes me so happy! I met you and you're such a special butterfly and I have to show you that because you refuse to believe it!"
Makes me sick.

That was Chapter Two. I'm hoping that the next chapter will be a little better for me because that one really made me want to go punch trees. And the trees don't deserve the pain.
Until then.

Best wishes,
~Sunshine

One step forward, five giant leaps back (Fifty Shades of Grey, Chapter 1 Review)

Recently, I purchased Fifty Shades of Grey for my Nook.
I didn't do it because I thought I would like the book, I bought it because I have an annoying habit. This habit is that I have to read something before I can honestly say I dislike it. It was the whole reason why I read the Twilight series. Intelligently, how could I say I disliked something unless I had read it?
At any rate, some background information that I already knew was that it was a published "fanfiction", basically with just the characters' names changed and being a little bit more edited. It was a BDSM-romance novel. And it was pretty dirty, so dirty that it had earned the nickname "Mommy-porn." As I understand it, the nickname is correctly earned. I mean, the fact that it was from a Twilight fanfiction explains a lot, especially when considering that the largest fan-base for Twilight are adult women, mainly mothers.
It also helps to explain why the book is so popular.
Continuing...
I managed to get a Microsoft Word file of "Master of the Universe", the original Twilight fiction for comparison. Some fan (or non-fan) had the foresight to save the file for things like this. Or, you know, to read it again because it was so well-loved, in the case it was removed. And it was removed from fanfiction.net
Removed because it had been published. The name was changed though, to avoid copyright lawsuits (remember He-Man and the Masters of the Universe?). Not to mention the song, was it by Prince?
I've read the first chapter so far. I read the original work. Not a lot has been changed. And I can honestly say that I may have preferred the fanfiction over the published novel, if only for the lack of female-hatred based on looks in the fanfiction and the more...realistically human way of speaking. I've highlighted some things that I'd like to discuss about here. And by discuss, I mean rant with a burning hatred.

First, the novel opens quite uneventfully. Then we get this fantastic statement: "Kate is my roommate, and she has chosen today of all days to succumb to the flu." Now, a better way to write that sentence could be "Kate, my roommate, has chosen today of all days to succumb to the flu," but I'm not necessarily angry about the way the sentence is written. And I'm not going to rave about grammar at all as I don't want to write more than I have to. I'm angry about what the sentence says. She chose to get the flu? What? No one chooses to get the flu. I never choose to vomit, have diarrhea, have a fever, feel terrible, and perhaps go to the hospital. And I don't think anyone else does either. Why would you be upset at someone for that? And later, the way she describes the way that Kate looks, it makes it seem like all Kate had was a cold. Learn the symptoms of the flu if you are going to write about it. Goodness.
Oh, and she also says "I'm supposed to be working this afternoon." Since this is, obviously, a sudden change in plans, she wouldn't have time to let her bosses know ahead of time. And no boss that I know would accept, "I'm going to go interview this really important guy for the school newspaper in place of my roommate. No, I'm not part of the newspaper, she's just my roommate and she asked me to do it for her. Duh, I couldn't say no. She's like my best friend ever, and I totally have latent lesbian feelings for her as I am hyper-aware of how beautiful she is." She would be fired in the real world. Even the most liberal of bosses that I know either want you to be sick with the flu, or they want a few days notice. But the whole story-line is stupid because there would be no reason for her to do something with the newspaper. She never explains why someone else from the newspaper isn't going instead. And I'm sure Kate doesn't write, edit, and publish the whole paper by herself.
Just in case I'm wrong, I asked a friend who works on our newspaper at my university. Which is a small liberal arts college. And she said, and I quote, "WHAT?! I can hardly handle one section! Haha, no, it would be extremely difficult!"
Next: "Grey Enterprises Holdings, Inc." and later, Grey's words, "I don't have to answer to a board." Umm...definition of incorporated: "A type of company, a legal entity where the ownership has been arranged into shares. A shareholder has no responsibilities to the company and the potential losses of the shareholder are limited to the value of the stock turning to zero in the case of a bankruptcy." And that was an easy Wiki find. I mean, hasn't this author ever watched Batman? Wayne Enterprises? Sound familiar? He owns his own company, is super rich, and there is no Inc. at the end of the company name. That isn't something that people put there because they think it sounds fancy.
Anyway.
"She smiles kindly at me, amused no doubt, as I sign in." So, any time a good-looking woman smiles kindly at you, she must OBVIOUSLY be laughing at you. I'm so glad I know that so I can go back at my college and be intimidated by the many good-looking women there. I mean, I had no idea they were all amused by me and my lack of equal looks! Oh, and, as a side-note, these good-looking woman are all blonde. But she never says what shade of blonde, so I'm going to think that they are natural blondes, not dyed-haired blondes. Which means that I am a part of the blondes that she is picking on. Thanks author, thanks. We aren't all secretaries or lackies, we have goals in life. Me, I'm becoming president and making multi-millions by being wicked awesome. Not by writing a poorly written fanfiction.
And she continues right after by saying this, "She hands me a security pass that has "visitor" very firmly stamped on the front. I can't help but smirk. Surely it's obvious that I'm just visiting. I don't fit in here at all. Nothing changes." Oh no! They gave you a VISITOR'S PASS for VISITING! HOW DARE THEY?! This was where I wanted to throw my nook across the room. I visited my old junior high and high school last week. I hadn't seen some of those teachers in over 6 years, and they still recognized me. And, surprise surprise, even though I was recognized and it was after school hours, I STILL had to wear a visitor's pass. Did I throw a fit, smirk at the little pass (which would be creepy I just realized. Picture that for a moment, better yet, pick up a piece of paper, smirk at it and think about how you look), and bemoan my life that nothing changes and of course they would give me a visitor's pass, it is obvious I don't belong here as I look older? No, I didn't. I just said okay, hung the pass around my neck, and went on my merry way. The woman behind the desk didn't even sneer or anything at this narrator, Ana. She just handed her the pass as she would any other person. Frankly, I would feel grateful that I wasn't being judged if I was so out-of-place as I'm supposed to think Ana is.
Now, another thing that I am upset about, "I have definitely worn the wrong clothes." ...what? You know you are going to meet a SUPER RICH and IMPORTANT PERSON, Ana, why don't you wear your best clothes? Or, you know, borrow Kate's clothes as she is so beautiful (so she must have expensive clothing as well)? Why would you wear something that you think is out-of-place, on purpose? I'm supposed to feel for you? Hell, I would have quick stopped at a store to pick up a skirt/pant-suit just for the occasion if I didn't have one. If I couldn't afford it, see what rental costs would be, it's Seattle, they have something nearby. Or go to a second-hand store or Salvation Army. Every time I've gone into one of those they have some sort of dress-clothes.
So, I sigh and continue.
""That sounds very philanthropic. Is it something you feel passionately about? Feeding the world's poor?"
He shrugs noncommittally." And we're supposed to think he's a good person from that. You know what that says to me? That says to me that he's doing one good thing to make it seem like he deserves all his money. Picture this: people are pointing out that his company is making millions more than it should and that Grey is throwing his money frivolously in everyone's face, especially those in America who may need the money or who need a job. His PR people will come back with pictures and stories and shout "but look at all the people he is feeding! He is feeding the world's poor! He is giving so much! The company may make a lot, but look at how much they are spending on the poor's food!" And then everyone forgets about it, or doesn't look look at the proportion of revenue versus money spent on doing good. His shrug tells me he doesn't care. And, now that I look it over again (I had just highlighted notes on here), it doesn't actually say that he feeds the world's poor. It just says that he is invested in farming technologies and that he understands that there are a lot of people who don't have enough to eat. He never actually gives them food. And he never says where the farming technologies are located. They could be for big businesses in America. How does that help people in South America or Africa? They can't afford new technologies. It is just implied by Ana that he feeds the world's poor. It is just her consciousness that says that he feeds people. Wow...I never even got that before. Thank you, blog, for helping me dislike this even more.
The rest of the chapter is just a shameless plug for how he likes to control things, how he dazzles her, yet makes her skin crawl and blah blah blah. Repetitive nonsense and I don't want to rant on any longer because I'm so sick of this chapter, I can't even handle it.
Fuck, I have to read the rest of this book. Good thing my 21st birthday is coming up in less than a month, I'll probably be half-drunk to full-drunk when I'm reading the rest. And I still have a warranty on my nook, just in case in my fuzzy state of mind, it is thrown across the basement, house, or yard, in anger.
But, I'm not going to complain about doing this like Ana does, this is my choice, just like it was her's to go to the interview. No one stuck a gun to her head and made her do it. I'm just going to grumble at my stubborn personality for a while.

Best wishes,
Sunshine.

Prologue

Hello Everyone!

Sunshine posting.
This will be the blog for my book reviews.
I'll be moving any posts from my personal blog, Sunshine Escapade, over to here.
Hope you enjoy my slightly off-beat way of dealing with books. Especially those I don't quite like.

Best wishes.
